- Does Jay need to be
at the wedding rehearsal the day or night beforehand?
Usually not. Being his
own accompanist means not needing to work with another piano
player, so Jay's presence is not really necessary. If there are
unusual circumstances, Jay will indeed be at the wedding rehearsal
if he deems it necessary for the success of the music. This might
include accompanying another soloist (one of your family members,
etc.)
- So Jay can take care
of last-minute details the day of the wedding?
Yes... details are important
to Jay, so he'll always arrive at the church or wedding location
at least one (1) hour prior to the start of the ceremony,
in order to:
- Run through the song(s)
to get used to the location and set-up the microphone(s)
- Get a sound check to make sure his voice sounds adequate (not
too loud, not too quiet, balanced with the piano/keyboard, etc.)
This can be done with the sound person, wedding officiant, etc.
or with a trusted friend or member of the wedding party/family.
- In the case of multiple solos, review with the wedding officiant
exactly in the service where the songs are.
- There is no piano
or keyboard at our wedding location...
If a piano or keyboard
is not available at the wedding location, Jay can provide his
keyboard with a small sound system for an extra fee. Electricity
must be provided nearby.
- What other provisions
should we make for Jay?
If the area that singing
will occur is in a locked area (i.e. a locked balcony - it happened
once at a church!), Jay requests that it be unlocked and ready
at least one hour before the ceremony.
- How do we select songs
for our wedding?
After e-mailing Jay regarding
your interest, phone consultation can take place for song selection
and Jay can perform songs live over the phone. Ideally, consultation
in person is recommended... so you can review lyrics before hearing
songs sung live in person. There is no extra charge for in-person
consultation.
- We'd like Jay to sing
a particular song, but we don't see it on any of his lists...
Learning a new song or
songs is not a problem. Jay would need a recording with or without
sheet music at least 1-1/2 months before the wedding ceremony.
(Sheet music does speed up the learning process, of course.)
There is no extra charge for this service.
- We're not sure if
our pastor/officiant will allow certain songs to be sung during
the service...
Any music restrictions
must be discussed with the wedding officiant (pastor, priest,
etc.) prior to the final selection of songs. Jay can provide
a lyric sheet of the song(s) in question for you to review with
the officiant for his approval.
- So what does Jay charge
for all of this?
If you are seriously
interested in Jay's musical services, please e-mail him at weddings@jayisaacsonmusic.com with your wedding location,
date and time. Jay will respond quickly with his availability
and rate for your area. (Distance and travel times are all figured
in for southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.)
- We should get all
of the final details in writing.
Yes, and Jay will provide
a written agreement of what he'll sing, when he'll sing it, etc.
to you so that all facts may be agreed upon well in advance of
your special day!
